Eats: Ajisen Ramen

Deep Fried Octopus

Omurice

Aside from their Paiku Ramen, my other favourite dish has to be the Omurice from Ajisen Ramen which is fried rice wrapped in a very thin layer of omelet. It is so simple yet mouthwatering. The sweet onion and bbq pork (char siew) bits in the fried rice, makes it so fragrant and delicious.

We also always get the fried octopus because it is such a great snack dish. Loves it.

Skeyndor: Pure Vitamin C Intense Recovery Factor

What is it?

A skin brightening program that consist of 3 x 12ml vials of Vitamin C liquid serum (last about 30 days)

RRP$134

Key Active Ingredients:

6% Pure Vitamin C and Betaine

What does it do?

Revitalizes the skin, hydrates, softens, replenishes radiance and firmness.
Protects the skin collagen and works to fight free radical damages to the skin.

Great for?

All skin types. People with burgeoning wrinkles, spots of sun damage, dull skin concerns.

Why choose Skeyndor?

Vitamin C is known for its super sensitivity to light, heat and other ingredients. It can get destabilised very easily and render its effectiveness. Skeyndor delivers full, fresh doses of Vitamin C in clever little vials that needs to be activated before use.

Skeyndor separates the active Vitamin C and moisturising serum in these innovative little ampoules until you are ready to use them and each little ampoules last for about 7-10 days to guarantee freshness of the ingredients.

"As Luca Mora, CEO of Skeyndor in Australia comments “It’s not so much about high percentages of Vitamin C , but rather how much the skin cells are able to absorb for greater benefits and better results for the skin. In an over-doing of Vitamin C, cells often treat it like a toxin and discard it causing skin irritation.”

My personal experience:

I am down to my second vial right now and I have seen incredible results since day one. The serum is lightweight, non-greasy and it is fast absorbing. Leaves my skin brighter and generally healthier.

While it didn't reduce my old pigmentation spots, it did however reduce my new pigmentation and I can see that acne scarring disappears faster than usual as well. Overall, I am very impressed with the results.

The difference I felt for my skin was that it stays well hydrated all day long, skin felt more refined, even textured, smoother and generally brighter + radiance appearance.

Definitely will recommend this as an intense treatment once-twice a year depending on your skin condition.

Lee Stafford: Dry Shampoo

The Good Bits:

  • The mist is really fine yet powerful.
  • Surprisingly, distribution of the spray was really even.
  • Comes in a cute (EXCITING!) pink packaging.
  • Also available in travel size, great for holidays, or safely hidden in the handbag.
  • The smell was overpowering for the a few seconds and it quickly disappears. I am thinking the strong scent is to musk stinky, greasy hair.
  • Definitely lifts the grease, oil off the hair in an instant.
  • Adds some volume + lift to the hair
  • Inexpensive

The Bad Bits:

  • Like all the other dry shampoos available on the market right now, I have to honestly say they are not exactly suitable for Asian black hair as the white bits can appear like dandruff on black/dark hair.

If you have light coloured hair, I'd think this one works pretty darn fine as a dry shampoo new to the dry shampoo league. Cleans the hair very swiftly and it delivers what it promises - life to limp oily hair = volume + lift.

Right now there's only dry shampoo in the US that helps to work for black hair. I can only wish if they could bring it into Australia. Cmon' speak up dark hair ladies! Demand for it.

Kose: Medicated Sekkisei Lotion

The Good Bits:

  • It is a toner that smells a little alcohol-ey, however it didn't irritate my skin.
  • After application it felt hydrating and calming to the skin, non tightening like MOST toner do.
  • Feel and scent was mild, refreshing and soothing. This is how a toner should be like.
  • After just one swipe you can instantly feel it evens out the skin tone and smoothen the skin surface.
  • Contains herbal extract for brightening, anti-inflammatory and moisturizing benefits.
  • Star ingredients: Coix Seed Extract, Angelica Extract, Melothria Extract, Licorice Extract.
  • Will definitely try out more of the Medicated Sekkisei range.

The Bad Bits:

  • Not widely available in Australia. Best bet is to buy it online and avoid buying from those overpriced shops in Chinatown, ladies.

This lotion claims to eliminate dullness on the face but I can't really say it solely contributed to my radiant skin because I am also using some other new intensive whitening product which I will be blogging about sometime this week. (Watch out for it.)

I have hated toner many years because they mostly contain alcohol and feels drying to my sensitive skin. This one is an exception. It feels like I'm patting on lotion more than a toner to my skin. This lotion has successfully helped me regain confidence with toners.

Eats: The Old Raffle Place

The Hainanese Chicken was very authentic and delicious. It was soft, fragrant and generous.

I had the Malay Belacan Stir Fry. It was spicy but not overwhelming. It also came with Chu Yow Char (Deep Fried Pork Fat) and it gave such a fragrant hit to the dish. Needless to say, I finished the dish even though it was kinda spicy for me.

This sounds crazy but we love the taste of the food here even though we got seriously bad food poisoning the second time we were here. (The first time we both got mild food poisoning as well.) All 3 of us got food poisoning so bad we never experienced such a dilemma in Australia EVER! Afterall, Australia pride itself by being clean and food safety.

While the service was friendly, the food was rather on the expensive side.

We also tried the roti with curry. It was yummy but the portion was so small I was barely satisfied. The banana and prawn roll was average, probably won't ever order it again.

I'd recommend to come here for the Hainanese Chicken (we had 2 kg of it) and the stir-frys if you have a strong stomach.

Spotlight: Yves Saint Laurent (YSL)

What they are famous for:

Radiant Brush Foundation
Radiant Touch
Pure Lipgloss

Watch out for:

Bronzing Powder
Sheer Lipstick
Golden Gloss

My picks:

Complexion Enhancer It's easy to use, it is lightweight and it works magic on the skin.
False Lash Effect Mascara + Everlong Mascara I like the combination of these two!
Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick Can never go wrong with their rich pigmented shades.

P/S: If I'm given my way, I'd choose EVERTHING as my weakness is all things YSL. Especially love their complexion range and their lipsticks/glosses.

Movie: Capitalism - A Love Story

You know you can count on Michael Moore for eye opening movies. He's done it again this time with Capitalism: A Love Story. Already ranking in with good reviews around the world, this is the movie to look out for this November.

Michael Moore brings us into a journey into the disastrous impact of corporate dominance on the everyday lives of Americans. From Middle America, to the halls of power in Washington, to the Global epicenter in Manhattan, Michael Moore once again takes us into the uncharted territory of Wall Street.

Personally, I find this movie very informative, has a good sense of humour and brutally honest. The class system of the society, the segregation among the poor and the rich and the unfair treatments to the helpless is a reality that is constantly around us but many turns a blind eye to.
We should never stop learning and we should never be ignorant to what's going on around the world.

Much like the same effect of The Cove; this documentary will change the way you spend and view Wall Street forever.

Out November 5th in Australia.
